An electromyogram (EMG) is a test that is used to record the electrical activity of muscles. When muscles are active, they produce an electrical current. This current is usually proportional to the level of the muscle activity. An EMG is also referred to as a myogram. Electromyography (EMG), the recording of myoelectric signals which occur when a muscle is in use, can be used to assess the level of activity occurring over a period of time. It can also be used to show the presence of muscle fatigue, a state when a skeletal muscle is unable to maintain the required force of contraction (Hagberg, 1981). A high correlation has been shown between EMG activity and muscular force, for both static and dynamic activities(Hagberg, 1981)
